BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Alumni from The Roeper School will be coming together for a week of community service in Detroit, August 11-15.

The Roeper Alumni Service Corps was founded last year and had a successful week of community service with organizations such as Focus: Hope and Summer in the City. There were 25 participants from three decades of Roeper alumni, families and teachers who helped rehabilitate a community garden, painted a mural, and more.

Alumni will be coming to Detroit from all over to participate in the wide range of activities that are planned this year. From partnering up with Focus: Hope and Alternative for Girls to a bike tour of Detroit and a food crawl of Eastern Market, participants will be a part of the hands-on effort to revive Detroit and will be able to experience the city through various cultural activities.

The dedication and responsibility to support the local community can be found in the Roeper Alumni Service Corp's mission statement: To bring Roeper alumni together: in the spirit of the school, to use our creativity and energy to do good. To make a measurable and concrete different to a project or projects in Detroit. We serve a local community organization - the project meets the needs they have identified in the community. No financial drain on supporting institutions (neither Roeper nor the recipient organization).Tangible: Once project is done, the results should be able to be seen. Durable: Should not create ongoing support needs. As little organizational infrastructure as possible - this is an all volunteer initiative.

This year's week of service will be dedicated to the recently passed founder Annemarie Roeper. Roeper alumni are looking forward to continue the philosophy upon which their education was founded and to show their commitment to impact the local community.
