SELFRIDGE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Mich. - Selfridge Air National Guard Base is conducting drills on Saturday, Oct. 13, during which it is expected to fire signal flares over the southeast Michigan facility.

The Air National Guard said flares may be visible Saturday in the residential areas surrounding the base in Macomb County's Harrison Township.

The training with signal flares simulates one possible scenario of how a downed air crew could signal their location to rescuers, officials said.

The public is being notified so that area residents aren't concerned by the flares.
