DETROIT – Some 2012 Buick Regal sedans are being recalled for a problem that violates U.S. safety standards.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says about 3,633 cars may have parking lights that fail to activate when drivers turn on the headlights. That defect violates U.S. standards and may increase the risk of a crash, due to reduced visibility of the Buick car.
The problem is caused by a software programming error. General Motors will notify Regal owners this week. The affected owners will be able to bring the car to the dealership for free repairs.
However, consumers can receive more information about this safety recall by calling GM's toll-free customer support line at 800-521-7300 and asking about GM recall number 12048, or by visiting the NHTSA website: www.SaferCar.gov
