Travel agent gets prison time for stealing from clients

DETROIT – A Waterford Township woman who ran a travel agency has been sentenced to prison time after pleading no contest to charges she scammed thousands of dollars from clients.

Police began investigating Penny Kane and Penny's Personal Travel of Waterford when several people filed complaints about trips being booked, but not ever happening.

Ruth to the Rescue covered the story when the investigation began, which led to larceny and stealing or retaining a financial device violation charges being filed against Kane.

Kane was sentenced Wednesday to four to 10 years in prison on six larceny charges, 23 to four years on three counts of the financial device charges and time served (96 days) on one count of a tax violation charge.
