Headline Goes Here

Several bag salads are being recalled because of a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

Dole Fresh Vegetables issued a voluntary recall of its Dole Italian Blend (UPC 7143000819), Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend (UPC 1111091045), Little Salad Bar Italian Salad (UPC 4149811014) and Marketside Italian Style Salad (UPC 8113102780) coded A058201A or B, with use-by dates of March 12, 2014.   Dole said it is a limited number of cases of the bagged salad that are being recalled.

So far there are no reports of people getting sick from the salads.  According to a news release on the Food and Drug Administration's website, this is a precautionary recall due one sample of Dole Italian salad which tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The Dole Fresh Vegetables salads were sold in Michigan and the following 14 states: Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.  It was also sold in New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec in Canada.

Consumers can find the product code and use-by date in the top right hand corner of the packaging, the UPC code is on the back.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause foodborne illness.  The symptoms include fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea.

According to the news release, the "illness primarily impacts pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill."

Anyone who has one of these bagged salads should throw it away.   For more information call Dole Food Company at 800-356-3111.
