Chrysler recalling minivans to fix airbag software problem

Issue can cause side airbags to deploy on wrong side of impact during a crash

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Chrysler is recalling 282,000 minivans to correct an airbag-control software problem.

In a crash, side airbags can deploy on the opposite side of the impact. Front row air bags that deploy from the steering wheel and passenger side dashboard airbags are not affected.

The recall covers the following 2013 models: Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Ram Cargo Van.

The recall involves 224,000 vehicles in the U.S.; 49,300 in Canada; 2,900 in Mexico and 5,300 outside the NAFTA region.
