Before you hit the road, make sure your bicycle is in good shape after being stored for the winter.

You can start with the basics, such as making sure your tires have enough air and the brakes still work. However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is also urging bike riders to check a list of 10 ongoing bike-related recalls.

For example: There are concerns about chains that might break, bike seat hazards, and pedals that can crack and break. All key safety concerns you should know about before getting back on your bike.

Beware of Baby Danger

One recall that stands out- involved the Topeak Babyseat II Bicycle Carrier Seats. Safety experts say a child can place his or her fingers in the opening at the grab bar's hinge mechanism. When the consumer lifts the grab bar to remove the child from the seat, the child's fingertips can be caught, which could severely injure the child's fingers.

To review all 10 recalls, go to the CPSC website.
