Safety concerns prompt gun vault recall

Safety commission recalls Lockdown Compact, Large Handgun security vaults

Concerns about gun safety have led to a recall of some vaults used to store weapons.

The recall from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is for Lockdown Compact and Large Handgun security vaults, with combination locks. Some of the locks can fail, allowing someone, like children, unexpected access to a gun.

The vaults are black, steel cases. The serial number is located on a paper label on the inside surface of the vault bottom under the foam. The recalled vaults have serial numbers from ST120002600 to ST120006800.

They were sold at small sporting goods and specialty stores nationwide and online retailers from May 2012 to
March 2013 both for around $21.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled handgun vaults and contact Battenfeld Technologies Inc. to return the vault for a full refund.

Here's the contact information: Battenfeld Technologies Inc., toll free at (877) 509-9160 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or online at www.lockdownvaults.com and click on "Product Recall."
