New album success adds to list of accomplishments for Detroit's No Resolve

After already enjoying successes since they hit the music scene in 2009, Detroit-based rockers No Resolve continue to garner attention and reach new milestones with the release of their debut full-length album.

“Unity” was released in January. It took 18 months to produce and, according to lead singer Oscar Pegorraro, that included deleting everything and starting over new when the band parted ways with a member.

Pegorraro said the 11-track album came from the band originally writing 30 choruses and cutting down to the best.

Pegorraro, guitarists Jason Hatmaker and Matty Shea, bassist Dennis Patterson and drummer Derek Bjornson are influenced by bands such as Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Starset and Shinedown.

According to Pegorraro, those bands influence both their sound and their lyrics, especially Starset’s synth and piano.

When making “Unity,” they wanted to create a modern rock album heavily influenced by melodic tones and vocals. While working on the album, they not only listened to Starset, Bring Me the Horizon and Three Days Grace, but also wrote with Johnny Andrews, who has written with Starset, Three Days Grace and Halestorm.

The band also got to record drums at Blackbird Studio in Nashville in the same room that Kings of Leon recorded their hit “Sex on Fire.”

“It was just such an amazing process knowing we were doing the same things, in the same spot as such iconic bands,” Pegorraro said.

“Unity” debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and No. 45 on the iTunes Rock chart, and Amazon featured it in its Hot New Releases.

In addition to landing a place on the charts, the album has attracted the attention of other artists, including one of their influences.

Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix shared the band’s music recently. No Resolve also got a share from Michigan rock group Taproot.

This year, the band’s 2012 single “Get Me Out” grew in popularity again when Linkin Park announced the track had won the December Stagelight Monthly Music Contest II. The contest is a competition where fans can vote on submitted music.

The track had already been popular when it was released. It was played on local radio stations, including 101.1 the WRIF and 89x. It was also played at Joe Louis Arena during Red Wings playoff games.

Before the song, the band had released an EP, "A New Beginning,” in 2011.

The band’s current focus is on touring and making music videos.No Resolve has shared the stage with bands such as Papa Roach, Hinder, Pop Evil, Sick Puppies and Buckcherry.

Right now, they have shows planned for March 31 at The Machine Shop in Flint with Red Sun Rising and Kaleido, April 1 at Streeters Ground Zero in Traverse City with Red Sun Rising and Kaleido, and May 13 at The Machine Shop with Taproot.

They are also planning an album release party soon.

The video for “The Pusher” was already released. The idea was thought up by the band’s producer, Shane D. Grush, and was directed by Shaddix’s brother Bryson Roatch.

“Music isn't just about the way you hear it, or feel it,” Pegorraro said. “We try to represent the feel into video as well.”
