Miley Cyrus cites Detroit as reason for her transformation

Miley talks about her time in Detroit in Rolling Stone interview

DETROIT - Miley Cyrus has been making headlines lately, but nobody thought Detroit had anything to do with it.

In a Rolling Stone interview posted this week, Cyrus cited her time in Detroit filming the movie "LOL" as a time that helped her grow up.

"Detroit's where I felt like I really grew up," she told Rolling Stone. "It was only for a summer, but that's where I started going to clubs, where I got my first tattoo. Well, not my first tattoo, but my first without my mom's consent. I got it on Eight Mile! I lied to the guy and told him I was 18. I got a heart on my finger and wore a Band-Aid for two months so my mom wouldn't find out."

Earlier this week, Miley's father came to her defense.

"She's just Miley," her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, told CNN's "Piers Morgan Live."

"She's an artist. She's real. I think that's what's happened over the years, Miley has been reinventing her sound. She's evolving as an artist herself. I think that all of what everyone is calling controversy now, that's still my Miley," he said.
