The character LaFou, played by Josh Gad, is Gaston's sidekick in the film. Condon says, "LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another wants to kiss Gaston."

LaFou's sexuality will be explored in a "small but significant subplot," says the director.

"Beauty and the Beast" hits theaters March 17.
