Report: Parents say R. Kelly holding young women in 'cult'

DETROIT - Singer R. Kelly stands accused of holding women against their will, by the parents of the women who say they haven't seen their daughters in months - even years.

In an explosive Buzzfeed News investigation, Jim DeRogatis details multiple accounts of parents accusing the R&B singer of running a "cult" that abuses and brainwashes women.

According to the families in the report, the women, ranging from 18-20 years old, were aspiring singers and were introduced to Kelly in 2015 as a mentor.

The report states Kelly would take these women to his home, take their cell phones away and then proceed to prohibit them from talking to anyone without permission.

He would also allegedly dictate what they eat, wear and do - as well as video taping their sexual encounters.

It was as if she was brainwashed. [She] looked like a prisoner — it was horrible. I hugged her and hugged her. But she just kept saying she’s in love and [Kelly] is the one who cares for her. I don’t know what to do. I hope that if I get her back, I can get her treatment for victims of cults. They can reprogram her. But I wish I could have stopped it from happening.

This wouldn't be the first time R. Kelly was accused to sexual misconduct. In 2008, Kelly was acquitted on child porn charges. He's also settled several cases outside of court.
