Grand Hotel set to welcome visitors again

Mackinac Island landmark opens for season Friday, May 4


MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. – The Grand Hotel will roll out its red carpet and open for the season Friday, May 4.

The iconic hotel, which calls itself "America's Summer Place," is celebrating its 125th anniversary with some new mementos and promotions:

  • Special room rates of $125 per person on two days only: May 10 and June 10. The price includes a full breakfast, five-course dinner and cocktail reception, as well as a lecture by hotel historian Bob Tagatz.
  • A new, 144-page Grand Hotel coffee table book, created for the 125th anniversary and featuring the photography of Pulitzer Prize-winner Robin Hood, will be for sale at the hotel.
  • Prints of an original oil painting of the Grand Hotel by renowed painter Marlee Brown will be available for purchase.
  • Two special drinks, the "Grand Celebration Cocktail" and the "125th Grand Anniversary Cocktail", will be available throughout the season.

The hotel's 125th anniversary is July 10. This marks the 79th consecutive year the Hotel has been under the stewardship of the same family, the Mussers.
