Oakland Regional Hospital hosts free diabetes health expo in Southfield

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield held a free diabetes health expo Saturday to educate the public on the signs, causes, and treatment for diabetes.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and according to the American Diabetes Association, in 2015, 30.3 million Americans had diabetes.

Although many people have been diagnosed, a lot of people are still unaware they have diabetes. The cause for diabetes is unknown, but unhealthy lifestyles have been proven to contribute to its onset.

The American Diabetes Association, Michigan Podiatric Medical Association and Oakland Regional Hospital joined together for the expo. The expo included free blood pressure, glucose and neuropathy screenings along with a number of speakers.
