Healthy ingredients make this guilt-free brownie

Unsweetened applesauce, egg substitute make a big difference

DETROIT – There are days when only a brownie will do. 

Moist and filled with chocolate, this recipe from Tina Miller, Meijer Healthy Food Advisor uses unsweetened applesauce, white whole-wheat flour, and egg substitute make this a healthy, guilt-free dessert!

Quick and Easy Brownies
Makes 20 servings


Ingredients
2 cups white sugar - NuVal - 1
1 cup unsweetened applesauce -  NuVal - 25
1/2 cup cocoa powder - NuVal - 52
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup egg substitute - NuVal - 59
1 1/2 cups white whole-wheat flour - NuVal - 91
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnut halves - NuVal - 82

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix all ingredients in the order given.
3. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes in a 9 x 13 inch greased pan. Toothpick should come out clean from center of pan.
