Food history has it that the idea of Buffalo Wings was born October 30, 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. That's when owner Teressa Bellissimo was faced with feeding her son and his friends a late snack. Having an excess of chicken wings on hand, she fried up the wings, dipped them in a buttered spicy chile sauce, and served them with celery and blue cheese dressing as a dipping sauce to cut the heat.

These days the Anchor Bar serves up more than 70 thousand pounds of chicken per month.

But the thought of chicken wing-flavored ice cream strikes fear and skepticism in the hearts of even the most adventurous eater.

According to Griff Gillette of Polar Bear Ice Cream, that's why the best time to try it is at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition in Miami, Florida.

"It's chicken, ranch dressing, and hot sauce ice cream," Gillette said of the concoction he calls "It's a Chicken Wing Thing."

Yes, there are chunks of chicken in it, too.
