DETROIT – The Detroit Medical Center released a statement Tuesday saying it has addressed prior findings that the hospital allegedly put patients at risk and delayed procedures due to unclean or contaminated instruments and equipment.

"On December 22, 2016, Detroit Medical Center was resurveyed by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). During this follow-up survey, LARA verified that the hospital has addressed LARA’s prior findings regarding the hospital’s processing of surgical instruments and made no new findings. We are pleased that we resolved this matter to LARA’s satisfaction and that the hospital is in compliance with regulations designed to protect the health and safety of patients who entrust us with their care.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs found the Detroit Medical Center "in substantial compliance with the Michigan Public Health Code and the Administrative Rules Minimum Standards for hospitals."
Here are the full findings released by LARA:
"On September 14, 2016, the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Receiving Hospital was found in violation of the Public Health Code and the Administrative Rules Minimum Standards for Hospitals, including but not limited to those requirements found in MCL 333.20131, MCL 333.20132, MCL 333.21521, MCL 333.21513, and R 325.1024, all of which generally cover the requirements to operate and maintain a health facility license.
"A letter from the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) State Licensing Section conveyed this information to the DMC and its affiliated hospitals. Through its operation of a centralized sterilization processing (CSP) department, which cleans surgical equipment, instruments, and medical devices, the DMC had allegedly placed patients at risk and delayed procedures due to unclean or contaminated instruments and equipment.
"The DMC responded with a Plan of Correction to State Complaint Investigation MI81639 on October 18, 2016, outlining the findings, corrective action plan, and the monitoring steps that would be taken and will be ongoing for each claim from the September 14, 2016 State Licensing letter.
"On December 22, 2016, the State Licensing Section performed an unannounced followup visit and post-complaint survey to review the DMC Plan of Correction, the current status of the DMC CSP Department, and the continuation of ongoing improvements as outlined by the DMC. No new findings were cited and the prior findings have been addressed and/or are part of an ongoing process improvement plan.
"As of December 22, 2016, the Detroit Medical Center Receiving Hospital is in substantial compliance with the Michigan Public Health Code and the Administrative Rules Minimum Standards for Hospitals. The State Licensing Section Complaint MI81639 is now closed."
