Colorado district closes more than 40 schools after virus outbreak

Schools to reopen Dec. 2

A highly contagious virus outbreak has spread rapidly through Mesa County Valley Schools, prompting the district to close more than 40 schools while it investigates and decontaminates.

The Colorado Health Department is working to identify the illness, which is acting a lot like norovirus, officials say.

The illness lasts between 12 to 24 hours, officials have reported.

Deep cleaning is currently underway and the district plans to reopen Dec. 2.
