Detroit - A lot of people watch what they eat - but are you thinking about what you drink?

The beverages you drink can show up on your skin. Whether it is water, pop, juice or something else – everybody has their drink of choice - especially on a warm sunny day.

What's best for your skin? I'm not a big fan of soda or pop.

I would much rather have juice or something healthy. I drink green tea every day and a lot of water to stay hydrated. I also drink a lot of ice water. Drinking water is special to our health.  Our bodies are made up of about 60% water. It is part of our joint fluid, spinal fluid, and key to make sure you're getting enough of it.

The first sign of dehydration is dry lips. Water is vital for keeping your skin hydrated and soft. When people are severely dehydrated, the skin is dull and the texture is not as supple as you would like.

Drinking alcohol robs your skin. If you're drinking a lot of alcohol, it's especially important the next day to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Best advice?  Drink a glass of water after each alcoholic drink to stay hydrated. While milk may do a body good, it might be problematic for some people prone to acne. The more milk you drink, the more acne. Milk, however, is a good source of calcium and protein helping with bones, muscle, and teeth.

What about sugary drinks? They're problematic because they significantly raise insulin levels, and when they go up, so does a hormone associated with acne.

Coffee can pack a powerful punch! In one study, drinking three cups of coffee a day reduced your risk of skin cancer by 21%. This is likely due to the anti-oxidants we have in coffee.
