Couple shares struggle to have children to give others hope

Couple writes book called 'The Rough Road to Royalty'

Georgio and Kristan Rodriguez wanted to have a family.

The married couple got pregnant and were excited for their first children. Unfortunately, at eight months pregnant, Kristan thought she was going into labor only to discover at the hospital that the baby had no pulse. Their son was stillborn.

Rodriguez had internal bleeding that nearly killed her.

"I got stuck in that blame," Rodriguez said. "It was all my fault. I did it. I did something to cause it."

Four years later, the Rodriguez's tried again and got pregnant. Then, 18 weeks into her pregnancy, it happened again during an appointment.

"Just sitting in there and looking at the monitor and seeing the baby and seeing no heartbeat -- that really took us over the edge," Georgio Rodriguez said.

She bled internally and said she nearly died again.

"I almost didn't make it out of the clinic," she said.

Kristan Rodriguez, overcome with grief, said she contemplated suicide.

The couple decided to become foster parents, giving up on trying to have their own children. Twice they tried to adopt their foster children but the families came forward to care for the children.

The loss of losing these children hit the Rodriguez's hard. Still determined to have a family of their own, they tried private adoption. Shortly after they signed the paperwork and paid the adoption fees, they discovered they were pregnant again.

Kristan and Georgio welcomed their son, Royal, nine months later.

"We were blessed with our son, Royal. He means the world to us," Georgio Rodriguez said. "No matter what you're going through, God is real and God is a miracle worker. This is a prime example of a miracle in our life."

Understanding how difficult it can be to start a family and struggle with fertility, they wrote a book called "The Rough Road to Royalty." In it they discuss the feelings of depression that can come with infertility, miscarriages and stillbirths.
