Since 1984, the organization has granted more than 7,500 wishes.  Right now, there are more than 450 eligible children dreaming and planning their wishes, and nearly 80 percent of those wishes will involve air travel.

Many major airlines -- including Delta, United and US Airways -- allow frequent flier program members to donate to Make-A-Wish Michigan.

Once miles are donated, they never expire.

Robert Wegener's 9-year-old daughter Madison had the chance to experience her wish to visit Alaska.

"These kids go through so much.  For them to have a chance to do something they really want to do, and be a kid, and not worry about the hospitals and the doctors, I don't think you can put a value on it," said Wegener.

The wish experience is priceless, but it does take a lot of money and miles to make it all possible.  The average cost of a round-trip continental U.S. airline ticket from Michigan is roughly $400, or 50,000 miles, and the average international or Hawaii airline ticket ranges from $900 - $1,200, or 90,000 - 120,000 miles.
