Robert Bobb encourages getting screened for cancer

Henry Ford to host free cancer screenings on April 26

DETROIT - Former Detroit Public Schools emergency financial manager Robert Bobb says he's "doing really well" and is cancer-free after his battle with stage 4 cancer.

Bobb went to Henry Ford Hospital and chose to have a less invasive procedure to remove the cancer from his tongue.  He also underwent radiation and chemotherapy.

Bobb sat down with Local 4's Rhonda Walker for an interview about his progress and said he's following the doctor's instructions. He's eating healthy, working out frequently and trying to have less stress in his life.

The former DPS emergency financial manager talked with Local 4 ahead of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, which is April 22 through April 28.  Bobb stressed that he doesn't smoke or drink, but that this type of cancer can affect anyone. Bobb also encouraged people to take advantage of opportunities for cancer screenings, such as the screenings being offered by Henry Ford Health System.

Henry Ford Health System will host free neck and head cancer screenings on April 26, during Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week.  Four Metro Detroit ear, nose and throat locations will host the screenings, which will require an appointment.

Free cancer screenings will be held at the following times and locations on Thursday, April 26:
