Google launches free WiFi service to train passengers in India

MUMBAI, India – Google, Inc. is expanding its reach.

The tech company has begun offering free wireless internet technology, also known as Wi-Fi, to train passengers onboard the Mumbai Suburban Railway in Mumbai, India.

And Google's generosity is awakening a whole new audience.

During the Wi-Fi's start up on the train Friday, groups of students and bored commuters had a much more engaging commute, as they all started logging on. Suddenly, India's 300 million internet users, who have had to rely on slow internet service in the past, now have new reasons to enjoy their smartphones

And Google took notice of the response.

The company said it now plans to expand its free Wi-Fi service to 400 train stations.
