The last week of February is a busy week for Mexican restaurants all over the country. On February 22nd, margarita lovers celebrate their favorite drink. And, on February 24th, we honor National Tortilla Chip Day.
According to the official website: The triangle shaped tortilla chip was popularized by Rebecca Webb Carranza in the 1940s as a way to make use of misshapen tortillas rejected from the automated tortilla manufacturing machine that she and her husband used at their Mexican delicatessen and tortilla factory in southwest Los Angeles. Carranza found the discarded tortillas, cut into triangles and fried, were a popular snack. She later won an award for her delicious contribution.
In order to celebrate National Tortilla Chip Day, the owners of five Metro-Detroit Del Tacos are sponsoring a sweepstakes, giving away a Del Taco Catering Package that feeds 10 people. You can serve up your own tortilla chip celebration for nine of your closest friends.
You must sign up on line between Friday, February 24th and March 3, 2017. All online entries my be received by March 3, 2017 at 11:59 pm EST.
