DETROIT – All good things come to an end.

Microsoft Paint, a cornerstone of early personal computer tools, will be phased out in the next Microsoft Windows update this fall.

Paint, which was in the first version of Windows in 1985, will reportedly join Outlook Express, Reader and Reading List on the list of dead applications.

Technically, Microsoft lists Paint as a feature that will be "depreciated," meaning development will stop - essentially setting it up to be removed completely.

Microsoft will start building on their newer Paint tool - Paint 3D.
