All-natural mosquito repellents

Dr. Earlexia Norwood of Henry Ford Health Systems is here with all-natural ways to keep mosquitoes at bay.

Essential Oil Mosquito Repellent

2 ounces distilled or boiled water unless adding jojoba oil, then use 1 oz of water
1.5 ounces witch hazel
30 drops citronella essential oil
25 drops peppermint essential oil
15 drops tea tree essential oil
1 teaspoon of jojoba oil – jojoba is a carrier for the oils and is believed to protect sensitive skin and help with absorption

Other essential oils such as eucalyptus and rosemary can repel mosquitoes and can be substituted depending on the scents you prefer and the effectiveness you experience.

Fill a dark, clean, glass spray bottle with the water. Add the witch hazel and then essential oils. Shake well. Spray onto exposed skin and/or clothing. Store away from sunlight and heat. Reapply at least every two hours.

Check with doctor before using on children under 2 years of age or if pregnant, and consult a veterinarian about use on pets.
