This little diner on the east side was voted one of the best in the country by Bon Appetit magazine. It's located at 10551 East Jefferson Ave. in Detroit. You'll get made-from-scratch food with quality local ingredients.
Owners Molly Mitchell and Lucy Carnaghi opened Rose's in 2015 in a greasy spoon that was extra greasy. They cleaned out the space, added some designer touches, and opened to acclaim, not only for their food, but also paying staff a living wage and giving a discount to neighborhood residents.

Grandpa Richard's Pancakes
2 cups buttermilk
3 tbs olive oil
1 3/4 cups flour
1.5 tsp baking soda
Pinch of salt
Combine eggs, buttermilk and oil
Whisk together flour, soda and salt
Pour wet ingredients into dry and gently fold together with a rubber spatula. Stop while there are still lumps. Let sit 1/2 hour. Heat butter in a skillet until it bubbles, pour about 1/4 cup of batter in. Let cook until bubbles pop through the cake, flip and cook the other side until golden brown. Enjoy with Michigan maple syrup!
