Italian Food Just Like Nonna Used To Make

Michelle Oliver takes us to Dine in the D at Pop's For Italian

With freshly made Neapolitan pizzas and homemade pastas, Pop's for Italian likes to stay true to its heritage.

“The main owner here always wanted to open an Italian restaurant. He loved his grandparents who emigrated from Italy and they gave him his love for food and the hospitality industry,” explains Beth Hussey, the VP of Operations.

In honor of his grandparents, they named the restaurant Pop’s for Italian after his affectionate name for his grandfather- Papu.

The restaurant has a fun design with high ceilings decked out in twinkling lights, giant murals, and a large wine feature that takes center stage.

“We… wanted the wine to hit you in the face as you walked in,” says Beth. It’s wine program is extensive with a high tech preservation system allowing them to serve 32 bottle of wine by the glass without them going bad.

The giant pizza oven is another piece that catches the eye. Here they make authentic Neapolitan pizza with 00 Caputo flour and San Marzano tomatoes. They also hand make their pasta fresh every day, just like grandma used to. Their menu is designed to be served family style with everyone getting a taste of everything.

“We don't have a lot of complicated sauces and things like that, we just believe in finding the right ingredients and trying to find the best of its kind and keeping it simple and delicious.”
