Wrap up the Halloween season by enjoying some of the fun activities happening this weekend in and around the D.

Dia de los Muertos at Plaza del Sol

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is the Mexican holiday that celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed on. This event will have live music, food trucks, face painting and more. Plaza del Sol is on Vernor Highway in Southwest Detroit. The event is on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. It’s free and open to everyone.

Five Dollar Day at The Henry Ford

To commemorate labor worker’s wages being doubled in 1914, the Henry Ford is having a $5 day. Admissions to the museum, Greenfield Village and the Ford Rouge Factory will only be $5 a piece. Automobile visionary, Henry Ford, boosted worker’s wages to $5 to help build the middle class. This special admission price is good for Saturday only. Children 4 and under can get in for free.

Youmacon

Break out your favorite anime costume because Youmacon is coming back to the D. It’s the 15th anniversary for this Michigan convention that is centered around Japanese anime, video games and artwork. There will be celebrity guest panels, live music, interactive events and a lot more. Youmacon will be held at the TCF Center (formerly Cobo Center), The Crown Plaza and Marriott Renaissance Center. Events kick off Thursday night. This is an all ages event; check the website for ticket information.

The Queen Next Door: Aretha Franklin, An Intimate Portrait

Get a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T when the Detroit Public Library hosts the Author Series Presents with book author Linda Solomon. Solomon will be discussing her novel, Franklin’s career and her personal experiences with the music icon and her family. The event will be Sunday starting at 2:30 p.m. It’s free to attend and Solomon’s book with be available for purchase. She will be signing them as well.

Detroit River Cocktail Showdown

If you like to sample cocktails from some of the best distilleries around Michigan and the country, or try new and unique spirits, this is for you. This is happening Friday in downtown Wyandotte from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.. Sampling packages are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include a souvenir glass and 10 samples.
