Do you want to make a wish come true this holiday season?

Your letter to Santa could help children across the country

It’s that time of year when we start to think about what we want for Christmas, and kids may be thinking about those letters to Santa. This year, that wish list that goes to the North Pole can help other wishes come true right here in Michigan. Christy Schulte with Make-A-Wish and Jade and Rubi Lopez joined Kim DeGiulio to explain how it’s all going to happen.

Schulte said it’s thanks to Macy’s Believe campaign. People can drop off their letters to Santa in red “Believe Mailboxes" at Macy’s stores across Michigan. For every letter that is received, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 Million.

Jade Lopez is a Make-A-Wish recipient who had her wish fulfilled. Her sister, Rubi, had written a letter to Make-A-Wish on her behalf, asking for a puppy. Jade has a genetic disorder that requires frequent doctors visits, and she wanted a dog to help her feel better when she came home. Her wish came true and “Sky” came into her life, thanks to Rubi’s letter.

Jade and her family are helping kick off the Believe campaign by being the special guests of Santa’s at the Fireworks Spectacular at Macy’s at Oakland Mall. This parade welcomes Santa every year. It happens tonight at 7 p.m. in the north parking lot of Macy’s Oakland.
