It will be a weekend full of music in Detroit

Detroit Music Weekend returns with a powerful lineup of singers

Something that started in 2017 is coming back to Detroit this weekend. It’s Detroit Music Weekend at Music Hall Center for Performing Arts. The show is a tribute to Detroit’s own John Lee Hooker. One of the featured performers this weekend is Tosha Owens and The Stable Dudes. They joined “Live In The D” host Tati Amare to share some of the music she’s going to play and gave a little more information about the show.

Owens says this is all about blues music as John Lee Hooker was known for singing the blues. Did you know he was a janitor in Detroit when his first single “Boogie Chillen” hit air?

As part of the celebration, a lineup of “women in blues” will be stepping up to the mic. In addition to Owens, singers like Thornetta Davis, Bettye LaVette, Eliza Neals and more will perform their songs, as well as songs from Hooker.

A special presentation will also be made at the concert. Zakiya Hooker, John Lee Hooker’s daughter, will be presented the key of the city by Mayor Mike Duggan.

Detroit Music Weekend is Saturday from Noon to 10 p.m. at Music Hall. Watch the video above to see Tosha Owens’ performance in studio.
