Meet the Detroit native behind Disney and Marvel’s new TV superhero

She’s giving “Moon Girl” a voice, and she has a dinosaur sidekick

It’s the new Marvel superhero that’s coming to TV on Disney and Disney+. “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” is all about a 13-year-old girl who is a super-genius and happens to bring a Tyrannosaurus rex Devil Dinosaur to New York city through a time vortex. The person giving voice to Moon Girl is Detroit native Diamond White who joined host Tati Amare on “Live In The D.”

“I relate to her because she is a Black girl, and this is representation we’ve needed for a long time,” said White. “I’m happy that it’s here for younger girls to see and say, ‘Hey, it’s cool to be smart’, and one girl can make a difference.”

So, how does a super-genius keep a T-rex hidden in New York City? They come to a common understanding through hot dogs according to White. Her character also learns the dinosaur’s language and they make a bond that’s so strong he doesn’t want to leave Lunella.

White also took time to reminisce about being at home and shared what she missed most about being in and around Detroit. To hear that part of the interview, watch the video above.
