Detroit’s nightlife is getting a sophisticated makeover. Harlem Nights: The Kingdom Karaoke Experience is a roaring ’20s-inspired event designed to give residents a night out that feels less like a crowded club and more like a cultural celebration. Co-founders Tierra McKenzie and Jasmine Williams appeared on Live in the D to say the vision was simple: create a space where everyone feels welcome. “We wanted to create an elevated experience where believers and non-believers could come together in unity to have a safe night out in a welcoming and positive environment,” said McKenzie.
The event draws inspiration from one of America’s most celebrated cultural eras. “The Harlem Renaissance - that era is marked by culture, elegance, great music. We wanted to honor that legacy while creating something fresh and exciting for the people of the city of Detroit,” McKenzie explained. Williams echoed the community-first mission, emphasizing what truly sets the night apart: “We wanted to do something that was a safe space - no alcohol, no smoking. We want people to leave energized versus exhausted. We’re focusing on community and fellowship, and I think we need that right now in the city.” The evening features live comedy, gospel rap, worship led by a Grammy Award-winning artist, jazz, and a best-dressed contest. The event is Friday June 12th. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
