Located in the center of downtown Clarkston is the beautiful old bank building, but it now has a new life as Sarah and James Schneider's continuously running dinner party (aka their restaurant), The Fed.
"I was always looking for a reason to have that next dinner party, and people to fill my home and sit at my table," says Sarah Schneider. "Honestly, this is an extension of that. This is basically my dinner party every night of the week."
They wanted their restaurant to be in the center of the community and were in luck when the found the old bank building for sale. This 100+ year old bank had beautiful stone walls and a red tile roof, but the inside was full of tiny rooms and a drop ceiling. They spent two years renovating it, revealing the stone walls, the vaulted ceiling, and all the old vaults. Sarah acted as the designer of the restaurant and wanted to keep the old, beautiful elements of the building, but give it a new modern feel.
"I wanted it to feel light and bright and airy, and I really wanted it to feel homey. All of the tufting and the fabrics, there's pillows almost at every table and every booth. Less like a restaurant, more like a home," explains Sarah.
Just like the friendly dinner party they modeled themselves after, there are no rules when it comes to what they serve. They have tacos, sushi, pizza, steak, fish, udon noodle bowls and more.
As Sarah puts it, "If I was planning a menu, and I was having people over, I would want to just put out my best." Their menu is seasonal and they are always finding new inspiration for what to serve their guests.
If you would like to try out The Fed they are located at 15 S main Street in Clarkston. For more information click here.
