Novi woman wins $1 million Powerball lottery prize

NOVI, Mich. – A Novi woman is the lucky winner of a $1 million Powerball lottery prize sold ahead of last week's $758 million jackpot drawing. 

Nancy Simmons, 52, matched five white balls drawn Wednesday: 06-07-16-23-26. She bought her winning ticket at Old West Tobacco on West Pontiac Trail Road in Novi.

"My mom always tells me: 'You can’t win if you don’t play.' So I decided to buy a ticket for the Aug. 19 drawing," said Simmons in a news release. "I won $4, so I decided to buy a few more tickets for Wednesday’s drawing."

There were three $1 million Powerball tickets sold in Michigan ahead of last week's drawing. The other two were sold at these locations:

  • Melvindale Liquor Market in Melvindale -- 17973 Allen Road
  • O'Connor's Deli in Fowlerville -- 650 S Grand Avenue

The winning numbers from the Aug. 23, 2017 jackpot drawing were: 6-7-16-23-26 Powerball: 4.

Tickets that match 5 numbers are worth $1 million.
