1 dead, 3 hurt in shooting on Detroit's west side

Scene is near Webb, Livernois

DETROIT – A shooting Wednesday on Detroit's west side has left one man dead and three others hurt, including a 4-year-old boy.

Police said the victims were standing outside a home on Webb Street, near Livernois Avenue, when three people approached and opened fire on them.

The 4-year-old, Ronald McGowan, was grazed by a bullet and was treated before being released. His mother and her boyfriend were also hit, but not seriously hurt.

Latonya Ward said she was on the phone with her sister just minutes before the gunfire erupted.

"I'm sitting there talking to her, we were laughing and kicking it. For me to hang up and then turn around and get dressed and then my little sister called me and tell me she needs to get down here because she was just shot ..." Ward said, trailing into tears.

Police said the shooting appears to have stemmed from an argument that happened earlier in the day.

No arrests have been made. Police say the shooters involved know the victims and may even live in the area. Police said the man who died was targeted.
