1 killed, several injured in serious crash in west Detroit

Vehicles crash at Tireman Street, Plainview Avenue in west Detroit

DETROIT – Multiple vehicles were involved in a serious crash that killed one person Thursday evening at Plainview Avenue and Tireman Street in west Detroit.

Detroit EMS, police and fire were all at the crash. Multiple people were injured. Several were taken away on stretchers.

An off-duty Detroit police officer also was involved in the crash. He was injured and taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition.

Local 4 has learned this started as a police chase. Police had pulled over a sport utility vehicle which fled, blew past a stop sign and crashed at the intersection. The passenger in the SUV has died.

The suspect's vehicle was t-boned at the intersection. There was a total of six vehicles involved. Some of the vehicles were parked. Four people, including the off-duty officer, were taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital.

One woman who was walking near the road was struck by a vehicle. Five neighbors helped lift the vehicle off of the woman.

Police have taken the suspect, who was injured in the crash, into custody.
