(CNN) - One student was wounded in a shooting at a high school southern California Thursday, sheriff's officials said, and another student -- believed to be the shooter -- was taken into custody.

Investigators recovered a shotgun they believe was used in the shooting at Taft High School in Taft, Calif., said Ray Pruitt of the Kern County Sheriff's Department.

Pruitt didn't know if there was any relationship or connection between the shooter and the victim, he told CNN.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., Pruitt said.

The shooting occurred in the science building on the school's campus, but Pruitt didn't know if it took place in a classroom or the hallway, he said.

There are no other suspects, Pruitt said, but authorities were still in the process of searching and securing the school.
