16-year-old from Indiana killed in St. Clair County moped crash

CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 16-year-old visiting family from Indiana was killed Thursday after being thrown from moped on King Road in St. Clair County.

St Clair County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of an injury accident on King Rd between Recor and Belle River roads Thursday, at 7:57 pm.

Upon arrival, witnesses to the crash advised investigators that the operator of a moped had been going SB on King Road when it made a left turn across the lane and was struck by a car, also SB on King Road The operator, a 16 year-old male from Indiana, in town visiting family, was thrown from his moped sustaining serious injuries.

He was attended to by other motorists until the arrival of first responders from the St Clair Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS who then transported him to River District Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries; the accident is under investigation by the St. Clair County Accident Reconstruction Unit.

The victim's name was not released by authorities.
