2 Grosse Pointe-area restaurants closed for hepatitis A investigations

Diners urged to visit doctor

DETROIT – Two Grosse Pointe-area restaurants are closed while the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness is investigating cases of hepatitis A.

Uncle Paul’s Pizza at 21215 Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods and Cabbage Patch Café & Catering at 15110 Kercheval Avenue in Grosse Pointe Park have closed voluntarily.

Diners who have eaten at the restaurants between Aug. 1 and Sept. 29 should see a doctor and watch for symptoms of hepatitis A.

Symptoms of hepatitis A include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dark urine, clay-colored stool, fever, chills and yellow skin and eyes.

Health officials are working to pinpoint the cause of the liver diseased that can be transmitted through contaminated food and water, as well as through close contact with someone infected.

Some regulars of the establishments are concerned.

"That's a long time. How did they not know exactly?" Daniele Rodriquez said.

Other diners support the restaurants.

"It can happen anywhere," Michelle Conlin said. "As long as you fix it, it's fine."
