DETROIT - Detroit police said two people have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl.
Investigators say a man who went to a house in the 19400 block of Ferguson Tuesday evening to get a cell phone got into an argument with the victim's mother. That man then pulled a gun and fired several shots through the front door.
Twelve-year-old Kadejah Davis was hit several times and died of her wounds.
Kadejah was an honor student at University Yes Academy. She was already planning to attend Louisiana State University to play on the school's basketball team while preparing to become a doctor.
Her brother, Eric Tantor, is dealing with the loss.
"She was a good girl who did good in school and played sports. She had a lot of friends. I miss her and lover and wish she was still here," Tantor said.
Shbria Dunklin talked about losing her friend.
"It's kind of heard to imagine somebody you knew getting killed at an early age. Kadejah is kind, caring. She's that type of person when you meet somebody you could talk to," Dunklin said.
Neighbors gathered outside the home Wednesday and set up a makeshift memorial on the front porch.
A candlelight vigil was planned for the evening.
Police have not yet identified the people in custody.
One is reported to be the man who fired the fatal shots and the other a woman who accompanied him.
