Here's how state police describe the shooting:

After interviews it was determined that the victim knew the suspect and they had a prearranged meeting so the victim could buy a quarter ounce of Marijuana from the suspect. The victim drove to Lehigh St. and Bayhan Street to meet with the suspect. The suspect entered the victim’s car and when the victim pulled out his money the suspect produced a semi-auto handgun and attempted to rob the victim. A fight ensued inside the vehicle and during the struggle the victim was shot.

The suspect was then shot during the fight. The victim wrestled the gun away from the suspect and the suspect ran from the scene. The victim drove to his residence and was being driven to the hospital by his mother when they flagged down the Garden City police. The suspect was driven to the hospital by an acquaintance. The suspect lied several times about his identity and also claimed he was a victim of a drive-by shooting. The suspect was treated and lodged pending further investigation and prosecutor review.
