2 Walled Lake district schools under shelter-in-place after nearby bank robbery

Bank robbery reported near Maple, Haggerty roads

WALLED LAKE, Mich. – Walnut Creek Middle School and Pleasant Lake Elementary School were placed under a shelter-in-place order Friday afternoon after a bank robbery in the area. 

A spokeswoman for the Walled Lake Consolidated School District said a bank robbery suspect was on foot. The robbery happened near Maple and Haggerty roads.

All school building exterior doors were locked, but school activity continued normally. 

"We will stay in shelter-in-place for the remainder of the school day and will have law enforcement officials at both schools. All students are safe and school is continuing without disruption," said district spokeswoman Judy Evola. 

Evola said Guest Elementary School was having indoor recess as a precaution, but is not under a shelter-in-place. 

Walnut Creek Middle School is located at 7601 Walnut Lake in West Bloomfield. Pleasant Lake Elementary School is located 4900 Halsted Road in West Bloomfield. Guest Elementary School is located at 1655 Decker Road in Walled Lake.
