STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A woman has died and another is recovering in the hospital after they were hit by a vehicle Thursday night in Sterling Heights.
According to Sterling Heights police, the incident happened while the two women, ages 45 and 49, were crossing 15 Mile Road at Dodge Park Road just before 8 p.m.
Investigators said the women entered the crosswalk while they had a "do not cross" signal and drivers had a green light. A 49-year-old Warren man driving east on 15 Mile Road hit the women while going through the intersection.
The 45-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 49-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The driver did stop and stay at the scene after the crash, police said.
The incident is still under investigation, but alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.
