2-year-old girl hospitalized with bullet in neck after shooting on Detroit's east side

DETROIT – A 2-year-old girl and her mother were shot early Tuesday in Detroit, and doctors are trying to figure out whether or not a bullet lodged in the girl’s neck should be removed.

Cameron Neal and her mother, Diamond Gibson, 22, were in a car going to the liquor store with Gibson’s boyfriend at about 1:45 a.m.

Police believe the three were followed by a vehicle to Tacoma Street. They stopped in front of a house when someone in the other car opened fire.

A neighbor said she woke up because she heard many gunshots.

“I thought somebody died,” she said.

Gibson was injured when she was grazed in the back by a bullet, and her daughter was shot in the neck.

Gibson’s 27-year-old boyfriend was arrested because he had outstanding out-of-state warrants.

Police don’t know who the shooter was, but they said the shooter was driving a black sedan.
