Warrant request issued in Bianca Jones disappearance case

Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing request

DETROIT – Local 4 has learned that the warrant request submitted by Detroit police to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in the case of missing 2-year-old Bianca Jones is against her father.

The office confirmed Tuesday it had received the request but had not made a decision on it. It was not immediately known what charges were contained in the warrant.

Bianca has been missing since Dec. 2, when her father, D'Andre Lane told police she was in a rear car seat when he was carjacked at gunpoint. The car was found a short time later, but the girl wasn't in it.

Lane's attorney, Terry Johnson, said his client is cooperating with police and had nothing to do with his daughter's disappearance.

"We hope that the prosecutor takes her time, reviews the facts, the allegations, goes through everything they need to go through and before they decide to issue, or deny, a warrant depending upon the person or persons they're looking for," he said.

Johnson said he won't comment on what information about the warrant request that has been leaked.

"We've done our job with the police. I'm not exactly sure what's on their plate and what's in their head," he said. "I know there is a tremendous amount of pressure to resolve this matter as it relates to Bianca Jones. And that's what we want, resolution. But we want the right resolution. We don't want to just pick the first guy walking down the street and say, 'Hey, this is who we want.'"

On Monday, sources told the Local 4 there was evidence Bianca would not be found alive.

Sources said investigators have searched Lane's home on Mitchell Street with cadaver dogs, which did return a positive hit for signs of decomposition. Although the little girl is still missing, sources said the search for her has turned from a rescue to a recovery effort.

Organized police and volunteer efforts ended Sunday. More than 1,000 people had searched abandoned houses, fields and alleys in neighborhood.
