Caregiver accused of neglecting patient until he died

Gerald Nash accused of neglecting 79-year-old man


DETROIT – A Detroit man who worked as a caregiver went before a judge Wednesday on charges he killed an elderly patient.

Gerald Nash, 67, is accused of medically neglecting 79-year-old William Huston while he was in his care in a home at the Riverfront Apartments in Detroit. Huston died Aug. 13, 2010. He is also accused of taking financial advantage of Huston before his death.

Nash is charged with felony murder, second-degree murder, first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, second-degree vulnerable adult abuse, eight counts of uttering and publishing, embezzlement from a venerable adult, false pretenses and identity theft.

Nash is being held on a $900,000 bond.

His next court date is Dec. 28.
