Man charged in Delta Township couple's murder
Sheriff says man was on work release without job
DETROIT – A 38-year-old man faces murder charges after police said he killed a Delta Township couple on Sept. 22.
Christopher Perrien is charged with two counts of felony murder and two counts of felony fireman.
The Eaton County Sheriff's Office said Perrien was convicted of a felony and serving time while on parole. He was granted a work release without having a job, said Sheriff Mike Raines.
He became a suspect five days after the murder of Michael and Terri Greene.
"Perrien was assigned a Probation/Parole Agent but his actual employment was never verified," Raines said. "Work release is a valuable tool, designed for those convicted of relatively minor offenses to serve their time in jail, while maintaining their ability to support their family. However, in my opinion, Perrien never should have been granted the opportunity for work release, considering his lengthy criminal history, which began nearly 20 years ago."
Perrien was being held at the Eaton County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
