Plymouth police release video of hit-and-run

Man struck by SUV Dec. 29 near N. Main, Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Plymouth police have released video of a hit-and-run that happened in December and left a man seriously hurt.

The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday near North Main Street and Plymouth Road.

Police said the 30-year-old man was on the sidewalk when a sports utility vehicle traveling westbound on Plymouth jumped the curb and hit him. The SUV also hit a light pole before speeding away.

"At the last minute, the victim was able to kind of get out of the way a little bit, which helped him a lot," said Detective Josh Carroll.

The victim is recovering from several fractures in his legs.

Police said the SUV that hit the man was described as a newer model light-colored Ford Escape. They said it would have driver's side damage and a a missing or shattered side mirror.

"If someone can come forward and be honest, I mean, that goes a long way with the prosecutor," Carroll said.
