Visitation today for publisher Sam Logan

Michigan Chronicle publisher died in December at 78

DETROIT – Wednesday marks the first of two days of visitation for Sam Logan, the publisher of the prominent African-American newspaper the Michigan Chronicle.

Logan died Dec. 28.He was 78.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Swanson Funeral Home, 14751 McNichols, in Detroit.

His career at the Chronicle spanned a half-century. He served as publisher for several years until 2000 and then returned to the post in 2003.

Logan's funeral will be Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Greater Grace Temple located at 23500 W. Seven Mile Road in Detroit.  Rev. Charles Adams, pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, will officiate the funeral.

Hiram E. Jackson, chief executive officer of the Chronicle's parent company, Real Times Media, will serve as interim publisher of the Chronicle.
